Work on the Dubai Metro Blue Line is set to begin this year, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced in February.
This transformative project, worth Dh18 billion ($4.9 billion), will enhance the north-east region of the city with 14 new stations, extending the Metro network by 30 kilometers, with more than half of the track running underground.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, stated, “This year will mark the commencement of the Dubai Metro Blue Line project.”
Last year, the Metro was the most popular mode of mass transit, shared transport, and taxis, accounting for 37 percent of users, according to Mr. Al Tayer.
The RTA reported a combined ridership of around 702 million for public transport and shared mobility services, including the Dubai Metro, tram, buses, marine transport, and taxis, reflecting a 13 percent increase from 621.4 million in 2022.
Upon completion, the Blue Line will link five key urban areas of Dubai: Bur Dubai and Deira, Downtown and Business Bay, Dubai Silicon Oasis, Dubai Marina and JBR, and Expo City Dubai.
The project is slated for completion in 2029, aligning with the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Metro.
