Starting August 12, Dubai will launch a pilot program reducing work hours to seven per day for 15 government entities, with Fridays off. This trial, running until September 30, aims to improve work-life balance and workplace flexibility during the summer.
The initiative, called “Our Flexible Summer,” will offer government employees a longer weekend for seven weeks. The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) emphasized that this move also aims to enhance workplace safety and reduce energy consumption.
The DGHR will assess the program’s impact on productivity and employee well-being. Similar initiatives in Sharjah have shown positive results, with increased productivity and job satisfaction. Feedback from this trial will guide future decisions on its broader implementation.
Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, DGHR Director-General, highlighted that the program aligns with Dubai’s vision to enhance the quality of life and sustainable use of resources, further solidifying Dubai as a leading city for a superior lifestyle.
